Director’s Update For January 2011.  Happy New Year!

2011 Parks Calendar

With the new year, comes the new 2011 Parks Calendar.  The 13 winning photos have been selected and the new calendar has been printed.  The 2011 calendar looks great and highlights 13 of our 92 parks, located throughout our beautiful city.  Play Pensacola will give 25 copies away to the first 25 individuals who inquire about the new calendar.  To participate in this give away please send an e-mail to Jeff Pohlman at jpohlman@ci.pensacola.fl.us with the subject line "2011 Parks Calendar Give Away."  Also, include your name and mailing address.  If you are a winner we will send you a copy of the 2011 Parks Calendar!  You better hurry, they will go fast!

Cobb Community Center

The Cobb Community Center addition is in full gear.  Vision Construction is working hard to get the new addition complete by September of this year.  The new addition will include a large multi-purpose room, a new fitness room, new restrooms, a new kitchen and outdoor grilling area, lobby and office space.  The existing lobby will become an arts and crafts room and the existing fitness room will now serve as a computer lab.  This much needed addition will help our staff serve the community and users of the Cobb Community Center.

Arbor Day 2011

The City of Pensacola is proud to be recognized for 21 years as Tree City USA!  This is a great accomplishment and we are proud to celebrate Arbor Day this year at the Garden Center on January 14th at 9:00am.  In honor of Arbor Day our Parks Department has planted 21 trees along Summit Boulevard.

Bayview Tennis Courts

The Bayview Tennis Courts have recently been resurfaced.  Unfortunately, due to the cold front that swept through Pensacola in the recent weeks, some of the surfacing has failed.  The contractor will be back onsite to make the necessary repairs in the upcoming weeks.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Lavallet Park

The two new play structures have been installed and out open to use.  The play structures are rated for children between 2 and 12 years old.  A walkway has also been completed that borders the edge of the park as well as a new gazebo and picnic tables.  Lavallet Park is located at 3910 Montalvo Drive.

Calling All Volunteers

Do you live next to or near one of Pensacola's 92 park sites?  Do you use the park on a regular basis?  If so, then we need you!  Become one of our Adopt-a-Park volunteers and provide us with useful knowledge of your local park.  Be our eyes and ears and report down limbs, hazardous conditions and general maintenance issues that need to be addressed.  Give back to your community and your neighborhood by becoming a park volunteer.

"A sense of community.... It Starts in Parks."
